With funding cuts by the Arizona State Legislature continuing to take their toll on schools and school systems statewide, school finance elections across the state can help fill critical gaps targeting critical needs.

Voters in 50 school districts statewide have the opportunity to approve funding for critical resources like new schools, maintenance and operations, bus purchases, heating and air conditioning upgrades, support for specialized programs like ROTC, full-day kindergarten, arts instruction and classroom resources, and to hire and train teachers and staff.

This is the voters’ chance to increase funding for critical needs. As Chuck Essigs, Director of Government Relations for the Arizona Association of School Business Officials, recently told The Arizona Republic that “right now, until the Legislature does something to restore some of the funding cuts and provide some additional funding to schools, maintenance and operations overrides and capital overrides and bonds are the only source of revenues they have that school districts can try to access.”
