Cinephiles rejoice! March 5th marks the debut of Reel Film Day, the first-ever nationwide celebration of 35mm with film screenings at independent cinemas across the country, presented by Alamo Drafthouse and Kodak. Join us as we revel in all the glorious depth and richness that only film can provide with a 35mm screening of Vittorio De Sica’s 1948 Italian classic, Bicycle Thieves, one of the most beloved films of all-time! A portion of the proceeds from this screening will benefit The Film Foundation, founded by Martin Scorsese to support the preservation and restoration of cinema, ensuring its survival for future generations.

Hailed around the world as one of the greatest movies ever made, the Academy Award-winning Bicycle Thieves, directed by Italian master Vittorio De Sica (Umberto D., Shoeshine), defined an era in cinema and has gone on to entrance generations of moviegoers. In poverty-stricken postwar Rome, Antonio is on his first day of a new job that offers hope and salvation for his desperate family when his bicycle, which he needs for work, is stolen. With his impressionable young son Bruno in tow, Antonio sets off to track down the thief, leading to an incident-packed day that will change their lives forever. Simple in construction and profoundly rich in human insight, Bicycle Thieves embodies the greatest strengths of the Italian neorealist movement – emotional clarity, social commentary, and brutal honesty – delivering a truly unforgettable cinematic experience. (Dir. by Vittorio De Sica, 1948, Italy, in Italian with English subtitles, 89 mins., Not Rated)
